When trying to open .tif files in Photoshop 6.0, I get the following error message, "Could not open…because it is not the right kind of document." I don’t understand why I’m getting this message. Another PC here also using 6.0 has no trouble opening the file. I actually can’t open it in Illustrator 8.0 either, but the other pc can.

Is it a fax Tiff file??

Alternatively has somebody sent you a file which was saved as a multi layered TIF saved out from Photoshop 7 – if so you will have to get them to send you a flatened version of the file.
