Blue screen when using masks in CS2

Hello!

I've experienced troubles on two different systems. Sometimes the whole computer just freezes and reboots (like the old blue screen).

As far as I know it happens when I'm masking.

Both computers run Win XP pro, SP2, a wacom board and a Matrox card. However it's not the same Matrox card and not the same Wacom board.

The error doesn't limit itself to masking with the wacom. The mouse will give the same error.

Anyone had the same troubles?

Sometimes the whole computer just freezes and reboots<<

Then you have bad hardware, either RAM, CPU, Motherboard or just possibly BIOS. If you get a BSOD then it is more likely to be a bad driver on your system.

Have you tried unplugging either the mouse or the wacom tablet and using only one of them at a time?

Fatal errors like you are experiencing most commonly happen when the computer tries to assign different pieces of data to the same memory space. You can go into control panel/system and under the advanced tab turn off the automatic system restart option. Sometimes the blue screen at the end can give a clue as to what the problem might be.

It is possible that two device drivers are contending for the same memory space or you may have an IRQ conflict. It becomes arcane but Windows sometimes assigns the same IRQ to USB ports and another device that are supposed to be able to share these resources but actually are not. If the problems started after adding a particular device and its drivers remove that device and software and see if the problem is resolved. Unfortunately when you contact the vendor they will usually blame Microsoft rather than their own product.
