cs (photoshop and imageready) refuse to open .nef

Since I installed the new plugin 2.2 camera raw I am unable to open .nef pictures from a nikon d100. I use a PB g4 and have no Nikon software installed. I removed the 2.2 and put 2 back in place, always quitting and restarting the program and computer. Nothing changed. can someone help me?

Tried trashing PS & IR preferences, normal disk maintenance, purging/reinstalling PS/IR?
