Hi folks!
I want to sep.print a Quark-file wich contains both Photoshop duotone eps.file and Ilustator spot-color eps.file. The problem is that the spot-colors appears with different names in the color-list in Quark, and therefore they also print on seperate plates. Does anyone know how to sync these onto the same plate? Thanks… =)

and make sure you have the same % values assigned to the spots in both applications because some RIPs freak out if this isn’t the case. (regardless of the colors final destination,) (spot or process)

What you can do as a (quickie ) alternative is to "remap" the spot colors from the Illustrator file, to the Photoshop spot color in Quark by deleting the color from the Quark color list. It prompts you that the color is being used within a linked "placed" file and asks you if you want to designate a different color to it.

"remapping"

Just don’t remap the Photoshop color to the Illustrator color.

Duotones, DCS2, and Greyscale files with spots don’t remap well or at all, is usually the case.

If you make changes to the names in any linked files, and do a file replacement, and/or update modified files, Quark updates the color list and the old color name "may" appear again.

You can also make a real mess, even when you have the names the same because when working off of a server, Quark, at times, doesn’t update the links correctly or forgets what is what and the files seem to be remapped, but are not.

If you are using an OPI system, this subject can go completely sideways causing massive head trauma and the litho gods may strike you dead in your tracks……

SO……

make the colors the same name with the same C_M_Y_K call outs for good practice.

and if you find anyone who is screwing up spot color file names, please educate them until they change their sloppy ways. If continued reinforcement does not result in better files, beat subject to a fine grain until they understand WTF they are doing.

If subject is being a retard, unplug computer.
