With Elements 2 I’ve scanned a letter printed on color letterhead. Elements automatically scans this as a Bitmap image which doesn’t show the color in the letterhead.

As a Bitmap image, Elements doesn’t allow me to Select and then color the letterhead. I can select the letterhead only after converting the file to a Grayscale but that doesn’t allow color either.

How can I scan the letter and capture the color in the letterhead?

Thanks.

Elements doesn’t actually scan anything – that’s a function of your scanner software. Somewhere in that there’s undoubtedly a setting that will let you scan in another mode, like RGB. Either that, or take your Bitmap image and convert it to RGB and see if you can accomplish what you want to from that format. What you’re see is Elements automatically opening a scanned image.

Scan as a photo or convert to RGB in Elements.

I wasn’t able to convert the file. All options except Grayscale were grayed out. However, I did rescan as a photo and that worked fine. Thanks for your help.

Hugh, for future reference: You can convert the bitmap to Grayscale, then convert the Grayscale to RGB Color.
