Adobe Online Error

748 views22 repliesLast post: 12/27/2003
When I start up, Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 looks for updates then returns an error stating "File could not be downloaded <http://cgi...tform=0DLLVer=2.8.3.3AOMVer=2.8.3.3> There was a problem connecting to Adobe Online. Please check your network settings in the Internet Control Panel."

I am running Windows XP Professional and have checked the Internet settings for Windows as well as Zone Alarm and can't find anything blocking the connection. I've also read the help documents on the site and failed to find a clear solution. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks, Jerry

My suggestion, and it would be the same advice from most on the forum, is to go to Edit>Preference>Adobe Online and set the frequency to Never. There's never been an update to Elements that anybody needed, so there's no point in having it try to log on whenever you start the application. I think the fact there aren't any updates may be why you get that error message, but I can't say for sure. Just turn the silly thing off and you'll be much happier! :)

Hi there,

I have the same error message relating to above connection problem with adobe online: could not download <http://cgi...tform=0DLLVer=2.8.3.3AOMVer=2.8.3.3>
when opening any adobe app. I own and I use most of them! The problem has just started occurring and I have made no alterations to my network settings or firewall!

There must be an answer in here somewhere...?

I know the advice I gave in my post is standard for Elements, but I can't help you with other Adobe apps. Have you tried posting on any other forums? Are you sure there ARE downloads for others?
#4
Well, I located this page by running a search in the forums and this was THE ONLY PAGE which had any reference to the problem!

I'll have to contact Adobe to resolve this and let you guys know if there is a solution.

I started receiving the exact same message recently. I have not found a fix for it either. I will follow this post to see if anyone comes up with an answer.
#6
Humor me and turn the check for updates box to Never. I'd like to see if that clears the problem.
#7
I am having the same difficulties. I know that selecting 'never' will disable the update capabilities - therefore removing the problem - but this is like sweeping the dirt under the carpet. I am experiencing this with After Effects, Premiere, Illustrator, etc., etc., and there needs to be a resolution.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one! I've been going crazy with my settings, all to no avail.

I have been involved in some discussions about this on other forums and it seems the only thing to do is to disable the adobe update option in edit> preferences.

Apparently, the update manager is not really very neccessary and any bugs/ crashes that occur can be resolved via the adobe support helpdesk.

I have now disabled auto update and everything is running fine again.

Hope this helps,

Don

For those that wish to see if there are any NEW downloads available for Elements and are having trouble linking via Adobe OnLine, try this: < http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=4 0&platform=Windows>. I agree that for those having trouble with Adobe OnLine should use Edit. Preferences, and opt NEVER for updates. Problem gone.

Apparently the Adobe OnLine is incompatible with some setups, but for some reason I've never had a problem and it works just fine. However, having said that, there have been NO updates of any kind to Elements 2.0 to date.

Did adobe ever provide you a solution. Disabling the option is not a solution, is surrender.
#11
If there has been a solution, nobody on this forum has gotten word of it. We've just all surrendered quite happily - no hassles.

Adobe talk to us?

you've got to be kidding!
#13
you've got to be kidding!

Gee, Don, Rich Coencas and Mark Hiers and Elena Murphy are all from Adobe.

When I attempt to get on-line to Adobe, I get a this page unavailable message.

????????????????
#15
Which only serves to prove my point!

Dear me, we are in a pickle over this aren't we!!

The best update you can get from Adobe is Photoshop CS!
Oh and when you get there, turn the damn Update Manager OFF!!

Methinks you are seeing problems when there are none. If there is nothing for you to download why are you worrying about it. But in any case, if you have the system that Adobe Downloads was designed for, it still works just fine. I don't see where anyone with this problem has posted the information on their system.

For instance, MSIE 5 or better? HELP, Updates should give you the OnLine menu with NO UPDATES WERE FOUND as the message. If you then click VIEW, All Updates, you should get "Adobe® SVG Viewer 3.0 (2357kb)". If you wish to see if you have the latest version of Adobe Update, then CliCk TELL ME MORE and this takes you to the Adobe Update utility, including the option to download the latest version.

Edit, Preferences, Adobe Online allows you the option to set the schedule (including Never) to look for updates. THERE ARE NO UPDATES AT THIS PRESENT TIME.

"With the August 2001 Adobe Product Update, Adobe Online has been simplified to provide you faster access to product-related information. Selecting the Adobe Online menu item will now take you directly to the product page on Adobe.com that lists the latest information on tips, tutorials, and community events related to your product."

Haw can you say there haven't been any updates? I don't have the problem, and I have received a number of downloads from the online updates (check the file c:\program files\common\adobe\web\adobeweblog).

< http://cgim.adobe.com/adobe_online/getAWEFiles.cgi?App=51&am p;Lang=enu&Platform=0&DLLVer=2.8.3>.

<http://www.adobe.com/special/webenabled/AWEDBFiles4.awe>

<http://www.adobe.com/special/webenabled/AdobeBannerenu.awe>

<http://www.adobe.com/special/webenabled/AdobeBannerenu.gif>

< http://www.adobe.com/special/webenabled/Adoberegistrationenu .html>

< http://cgim.adobe.com/adobe_online/getAWEFiles.cgi?App=51&am p;Lang=enu&Platform=0&DLLVer=2.8.3>.

I believe anyone that says no files are available for download is confused. They should all be downloaded in the c:\program files\common\adobe\web\ directory, and the history should be in the file adobeweblog.

Roger,

I just don't see any updates in there. Out of the six, 2 of them tell you to try the update function later. One is a small gif image from an Adobe web page. One is for registering the program online. One seems to just identify the "Update" function as Adobe Update. And the last one is just URLS to Adobe sites, like to the Adobe Store. I really don't think there have been any updates to the program.

Roger,

When "no updates" was listed, it means there have been NO UPDATES (other than the SVG viewer) for PhotoShop Elements 2.0. Other Adobe programs, of course have had updates and they are available via Adobe Online via THOSE programs.

I've encountered the same problems as jerry, I can access the product updates screen and the svg viewer is visible if I select all updates yet I can download it, only highlight it (does this mean that it has already been installed??)

I also have tried to download new recipies etc from the online services but keep getting the error message "An unexpected error occured while communicating with the online service, please try again"

I'm using XP & have Norton Internet Security yet i have been on the supervisor account and allowed photoshop elements free acess to the web and it still doesnt work.

I did a reply to another post by you. I was asking for more detail, some of which you've given here. My question: What ISP are you using?

There are no updates that aren't already included in PSE2, by the way.
