Files Save as .pict

I have Photoshop 7.0 for Windows. Until the upgrade to 7.0 I could save pix as .jpg w/o problems. Now they always save as PICT files. Then I can’t open them in Quark, which is where I do most of my work. HELP? What I know I’ve learned on my own so I need "regular English" help, not tech speak please.
