Utility to change a jpg's creation and picture taken date?

Hi,

I am using Photoshop Elements 8. I want to change those dates so I can create a catalog or search for them. My batteries went out in my little camera a while back now everything gets save to XP as 7/1/2005 12:00AM.

Has anybody been successful with anything? I found a few things by Googling but am not sure what to trust.

Freemann Schmidt provides a freeprogram called Geosetter, which will do a number of things, including editting the embedded date info in a jpeg. In your case, you may want to add an offset to the date and time, since the camera keeps track relative to the time you power it up.

Be sure to save your original files - as I recall the interface takes a little getting used to and it's easy to set the time incorrectly before you get the hang of it.

Why not just rename the files with the date the photograph was taken? A file named 2009-10-29-001 is just as easy to search for as a file with that information in the exif. You don't need to add a program to do this.

Never mind. I didn't know you were using Organizer. Renaming a file in Organizer screws things up.

However, if you right click on an image in Organizer, or use the shortcut Control+J, a drop down will appear. Choose "Adjust Date and Time" and put in the date you want.

Perhaps, I read OP as saying "and now everything" ... indicative that the date is at default.

The batteries ran out and by the time I replaced them it was too late before I realized it before I started taking more pictures (for a while LOL!).

Heck yeah! I initially also wanted something to change the Windows file dates (so I could also use them in other programs, etc..) but then it dawned on me that I don't remember when the heck I took most of those pictures! :-)

If you can solve when one of the images was taken, you can then apply the same offset to all of your images, and get them back in sync.

Geosetter, and probably exiftool will also change the file mod times, as well as the image capture time your camera stored in the image itself. --
