After modifying the keyboard shortcuts in Photoshop CS, the "Shift" modifier key for the Paintbrush, pencil, and Eraser stops working from point to point. The modifier does continue to function if it held down to make straight vertical or horozontal lines, but stops funtioning for a diagnal from a "shift" click to the last click.

The only way to get back the functionality of the shift modifier, is to trash the keyboard shortcut preferences and reinstall Photoshop CS. If the keyboard shortcuts are modfied again, the modifier is lost again.

The main Photoshop CS Prefs should also be trashed. Reinstalling Photoshop does not necessarily replace the Prefs file. It seems to keep the former prefs if they are still there. A "clean" resinstall requres deleting files from a number of places before reinstalling the app.
