no fill in paths

I've run thru help, and I just can't find how to turn off the fill function when using the pen tool..

I'm trying to draw a line that's not exactly 90 degrees, and when I stop drawing, I have a colored curve between the start and end point.

It's driving me crazy..

Make sure you have 'path' selected (left on the toolbar, middle icon) Now you draw a path, which you can stroke (path-panel)
It doesn't work the same as in eg. Illustrator, but is very powerful if you get the hang.

This has happened to me before. What I did was reset PS defaults, CTRL ALT SHIFT. What the pen tool did was it selected the far right icon vs the middle or left one[shape]. I think there's only 3, and the far right's always grayed on me.
Kind of extreme, but it worked. They need to remove that 'show full menu items' thing, or at least allow a config as in MS access 2003 to show full menu items with 1 toggle. I had to modify each and every menu item on the basic menu to show all. I think it took an hour to toggle all the items 1 by 1. Sheesh.

What I was trying to do was follow along with Monroy and his newest pixel perfect demo 'Create a Realistic Beer Bottle - PixelPerfect'. I realize he's using a Mac, but there's not a lot of difference. But I just could not do the mirror in Illustrator as he did. But I did it almost verbatim in PS, once I got it to stop filling in the points.

You can save your workspace, your keyboard shortcuts and your menu in PS. (CS3 & 4)

did you watch his pixelperfect demo on the bottle ?
he made the left side with the pen tool, moved the pen about an inch to the right, I think he hit CTRL J. What I got was some sort of error message saying you can't get there from here.
Over and Over again. Which is why I took it to PS, and did the exact same steps and the CTRL J worked, once I got rid of the fill in the points with the pen tool.

And the biggest frustration ever just yesterday. Couldn't open the live onecare box. Took it to support and got a 'pass the buck' reply to take it to subscription support which you can't do until you subscribe, and you can't subscribe without the serial number INSIDE the box that CAN'T be opened. Gravity eventually opened it. I didn't seem to have anything to do with it. I pulled every corner I could get a thumbnail under.
Then putting the box down, the angle holding it, the box just fell open.

He didn't move the pen-tool an inch to the right, he moved the reflect-tool there and made a copy.
Then he selected two nodes with the white-arrow and hit CTRL-J (join) Those are important steps! Watch it again?
