Photoshop CS2 & raw files fron sony a300 camera AWR file

Hi

I know CS2 does not accept RAW files, but there is a download/plugin that you
can get. Adobe do not appear to have a plugin for CS2. CS3 onwards yes. I have down loaded camera raw file 3.7 & have tried putting it into the plugin folder in photoshop , but still does not work.

Running Vista sp1. Sony only has a raw plugin for Windows

I have used Sony Image Data Converter on my Vista computer to convert ARW files from a friend's Sony A100. You can download it from the Sony site but if I recall I had to d/l one version then a upgrade to Vista. It is not very good software and I no longer use it as I have upgraded to Photshop CS4 which makes a far better job of converting the ARW files. It's not very clear but the Image Data Suite for Windows should work on Vista.

You really need to READ a little more about the RAW and CS2. Cuz it's a little more than you think.

2. The ARC (Adobe RAW Converter) comes with Photoshop does

3. At Adobe site they have instruction (in TEXT format) to show you where to copy the plug-in to.

4. And they also have information of which RAW format (camera and model) CS2, CS3, and CS4 support etc..

There is a plugin for my a300 but Adobe say it will only be supported on CS3 and above, NOT on CS2.

There is a plugin for CS2, but the A300 was introduced after this release.

Photoshop CS2 comes with Camera RAW, which is the plugin you need to open RAW files. Your version of Camera RAW doesn't support your A300 however, because the A300 is too new and Camera RAW for CS2 doesn't get updated any more. The solution is simple: download the free Adobe DNG Converter and convert your RAW files to DNG (which is also a RAW format). Your version of Camera RAW does support DNG.

In this case you are correct! because right now the RAW formats are not uniformed or each manufacture has it own style and they often change on different model or firmware. So, CS2 only supports the current RAW formats at the time CS2 was still the current version, same with CS3, and CS4.

But the CS2 version of ACR will work with DNG files, and you can use the modern DNG converter (free) to make DNGs with the new camera, then use the old ACR to convert.

Photoshop CS2 comes with Camera RAW, which is the plugin you need to open RAW files. Your version of Camera RAW doesn't support your A300 however, because the A300 is too new and Camera RAW for CS2 doesn't get updated any more. Well, but I can only be able to response to what I read. And if you are talking about the DNG then you are correct that the DNG should work with most if not all current RAW junkies.

Or because right now each manufacture and software developer have their own format and code, and Adobe is trying to win the RAW war by creating their own universal format. The problem that Adobe wants to own the format not to share with other, and others don't want Adobe to win which they may end up license the format later in the future. So the war keeps on going.

I think Adobe will win but may take awhile longer yet.

Adobe is taking the initiative, true. That doesn't mean that they are subverting everyone else.
