Repairing PSD file corruption

I recently had a harddrive fail. I was able to recover most of the data, but when psd files are opened, PhotoShop displays an error. It says the files are not recognized as PhotoShop format. I compared, using a Hex Editor, the contains of a valid psd file and one I recovered. The difference appears to be added information above the file header. Does anyone know of a tool or utility or anyway to fix the file corruption? I tried removing the lines above the headers but that did not work. I have talk with the company that wrote the recovery software but they offered no real help. Does anyone have a solution?

Save early, save often, back up everything, even the period at the end of the sentences in your next message.

Rule 1 of PhotoShop:
Expect Photoshop to Crash

Rule 2:
Expect it to crash before you back-up.

Living with the knowledge of these rules will help you in your journey, Grasshopper.

Cheese - for most users, Photoshop rarely crashes.

The OS, and device drivers, on the other hand....

Well, I was going to say that since the release of v7, Photoshop has never crashed on my win98SE systems. It's always IE or some other rougue. That isn't to say it happened before v7, just that I don't remember it.

The reason I didn't say it, was because... now watch: my system will crash during a critical edit.

Save As = Save Ass.
