Here is the dumb question of the week. After selecting an area with the magic wand tool, how do you unselect it?

Not a dumb at all.

Ctrl + D will deselect all that is selected.

Alt + Left mouse button will allow you to draw around an areas that is masked and have it removed.

Bill,

Grant answered your question but you might also wonder how to "deselect" only portions of the selected areas. To do this use the selection brush and hold the alt key down when using it.
