hairlines or outlines for type in PS

Is there a simple way to put a hairline or outline around typefaces in PS? Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I've searched around and can't find any way to highlight or otherwise make type "jump" out of the background.

Use the stroke layer effect.

Bear in mind that a "hairline" in Photoshop cannot be less than one pixel in width.

Thanks, that did the trick. Much obliged.

That approach is fine for on-screen based graphics (like web pages). I would defer to Illustrator for that effect if the job is printed.

If you save the Photoshop file as a PDF the quality would be indiscernible from an Illustrator file.
