Why does CS3 take so long to install and uninstall?

I recently bought PhotoShop CS3 to give to my daughter. Since I wasn't going to see her for a few weeks, I decided to install it on my computer to check it out. (I usually use PS 7). It took over an hour to install, which seemed ridiculous....until I tried to uninstall it. When I went to uninstall it, it took 14 hours!!??!!
What the heck is wrong with it that requires it to take that long to uninstall? I hadn't used the activation for it since I wasn't planning on keeping it, and that gave me a 30 day free trial of it. Once I gave it to my daughter, I went to uninstall it since I didn't plan on activating it.
Has anyone else experienced this? I realize that most people wouldn't uninstall it once they've bought it and installed it, so I was wondering if it took anyone else over an hour to install it? If so, does anyone know why it takes that long?

well it didn't take 14 hours to uninstall but it does take awhile... and it won;t uninstall completely unless you download the file from Adobe and CLEAN it out of your computer
which you will have to do it you ever do decide to install it

the suite takes about a hour to uninstall to me , i never actually installed just photoshop. and for the record i had a quad 2.6 and 3gb ram with vista

Instead of blaming on CS3 you may want to ask what's wrong with your computer. Or if you can give some information about your computer then someone here may give you some general information of what may cause the problem.

Those results are not typical. I happen to get my hands on a lot of laptops and I load CS3 as a trial to do some testing bench testing very often and a good machine should take no more than 15 minutes to complete the CS3 Extended install reading from optical media.

I doubt that any other components would matter, but the hard drive is a Maxtor 500GB ATA at 7200rpm.(I have about 300GB of free space on it plus a second 300 GB hard drive).
I wanted to stop the uninstall process, but if I did, then I'd have to start it all over and waste more time. I guess if no one else had any problems, then there must be something in my computer that help up the process. You'd think it would have stopped the process instead of letting it creep along like that.
If I had bought CS3 for myself and had planned on keeping it, I'd have never uninstalled it, so I wouldn't have found out that it took me so long to uninstall.

Try turning off any anti-virus and or spyware you may have running, that can sometimes help, especially if its trying to check all the files as they install

Your system seems to be good enough to be able to install just about any program for less than 30-60 mins. And the only thing I can think of

1. Something is running behind your back that eating all the CPU. And you can always use "Task Manager" to check the status.

2. I really can't think of anything else except few things like "Norton" which I stopped using for over a decade used to be well known util for messing up other aps (several older version of Photoshop was victim of sme Norton Util). And you may want to check with some Anti-Virus to make sure they are not scanning for virus at the moment.

Some "SETTING" of many newer anti-virus program can cause lot of slowness to many systems. And *again* the "Task Manager" should tell you what's going on

CS3 was the first program I tried to install since installing SP2, so I don't have anything to gauge it against. I didn't want to install SP2 ever since my friends tried to install it when it first came out and they had all sorts of problems. Plus, I installed one of Microsoft's "updates" once and my computer slowed down to a crawl. I uninstalled that "update" and everything went back to normal, so I never installed another update since. By installing SP2, I installed all of the updates since then, so maybe it has something to do with SP2.
Oh well, hopefully I won't need to install anything else until I decide to buy a new computer in the distant future....when Windows 7 comes out, that way I can avoid Windows Vista.<g>

Besides some type of util or anti-virus like Norton or similar which I no longer use to have any experience to share, the only problem you may run into is the stupid relationship between Adobe and MS IE (Internet Explorer) which may cause some problem (not slowness but installation issue).

No it was SP2. I have avoided installing any updates or SP2 because of problems friends and coworkers had when they installed SP2. I installed one update once and it slowed my computer down to a crawl, so I uninstalled it and decided to never install another update. I was talked into installing SP2 the other day, and sure enough, my computer now runs a lot slower....not as bad as before but slow enough to be a pain.
The automatic update tried to install SP3, but 2/3 of the way into it, there was an error and it stopped installing, so I don't know what that was about.

i've been using worked with and used windows on thousands of machines since around 1990 since v3 and Dos, 99.999% of the times i ever have probs with pc's running slow hanging crashing BSOD etc etc, update probs blah blah blah blah is because of 2 reasons

1: A 3rd party software conflict ie not a Microsoft product, very very very rarely
2: An already corrupt to some degree Windows, due to tweaking things to make it run better , faster etc etc etc

the best advice i can give you is to totally wipe, clean reformat and then reinstall windows and SP3. ditch norton and use one of the good freebies like AVG, or Avast etc

Software does not take hours to install/uninstall unless something is already wrong

*If* your computer runs lot slower after CS2 or CS3 installed, then I would suggest you to take a closer look at your COMPUTER *not* CS2 or CS3 as they should have nothing to do with the slowness issue you have with your computer.

Or, if it's some slowness during the installation then it's another story, and as I mentioned in previous message you just need to look at the "Task Manager" to find out what causes the slowness.

Yikes. Re-install your OS from scratch, set a restore point, apply SP3 and stay current on all high-priority updates per recommendation from Microsoft. Be sure to use restore points before any update or software install from anyone. Adobe has designed their products to work with the latest version of the OS and vice-versa with Microsoft. You can bet they test all new updates to try not to break Photoshop. But if an update does not work you just go back to the restore point you created before the update.
