Match color is driving me crazy...

Possibly I'm just dense...but I've now bought 2 additional PHshop books for help and things still do not work...My problem is the Match color command...In the same image, what is the procedure to match the color between 2 separate selection areas?...on two separate layers...
Help anyone?...
Thanks...John

With the layer selected whose color you want to change, open the Match Color dialog and select the layer whose color you want to use as the source. Since it's not possible to have two active selections on two different layers simultaneously, the color from the source layer will be taken from the entire layer. I do this fairly often and the way I get around it is to copy a section of the source layer and paste it into its own temporary layer. This technique also gives me much better control over what colors are used from the source layer.

Thanks for the help...
I've tried that and had mixed results...but yes, that appears to be the way to go... I had understood that that particular tool would match between selections in the same image...the procedure laid out does not work as described, though...I thought that I was missing something...
Again, thank you...
