If you're on windows XP or later, there is an image resizer powertoy that you may want to check out, in addition to the other suggestions. The image resizer is built-in to explorer, and very simple to use. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppow ertoys.mspx ---

Simply use the batch command in PHOTOSHOP.
First you create a action of course.

Because you ask this in a Photoshop newsgroup, I think an answer involving Photoshop is probably what you are looking for. All you need is already present. Just look at 'File - Scripts - Image Processor'.

Because you ask this in a Photoshop newsgroup, I think an answer involving Photoshop is probably what you are looking for. All you need is already present. Just look at 'File - Scripts - Image Processor'.

Also available from the Bridge in CS2 or CS3 -

Preselect your images, then go to
Tools > Photoshop > Image Processor

In CS, the Image Processor was known as "Dr. Brown's Image Processor", and was only available as a downloadable script from Russell Brown's site - http://www.russellbrown.com/tips_tech.html

Hmmm, The Curvemeister advising someone to use MS Powertools instead of PS.... What's that? Are you being paid to say that? :)

If you compare the results between a resized pic with PS (using Bicubic Sharper) and with MS you can see you loose quite a lot of details (& contrast) in the MS version. Blurry stuff. Sure, the result will be ok for many people, but this is a PS group, isn't it? And batching or scripting it with PS isn't too hard. Better still, it's easy.

No, only indirectly. If you fit the images into 720 pixels for example, and the resolution is 72 ppi, you will get images of 10 inches. This only works if all images are the same resolution.

In the Image Size Dialog you can choose Inches/CM/MM/etc. When you create your Action, just choose inches. Make your desired size and run the batch with this action.

Except that you cannot specify that the images should 'Fit Into' using Image Size. That means you cannot resize a bunch of images this way if they are a mix of portrait and landscape orientation. Here's a script that will neatly resize such a mix:

Let's say that you want 10 inch at 300 ppi. That means the images should fit into 3000 pixels wide or 3000 height. The script is now as follows:

Step 1: Automate - Fit Into 3000 pixels x 3000 pixels
Step 2: Image Size - Set resolution to 300 ppi

Run this script via 'Automate - Batch'.
