Someone pleez explain how to composite a grayscale image with an RGB image

Good morning, Ms Momma :-)

Convert the grayscale to an RGB image -- it won't pick up any tonal values that aren't there (in other words, it will only be RGB in name only).

Once it's an RGB image, copy it and put it on a (new) layer in the RGB image. Merge or mix them once they're all one RGB component.
