A JPEG marker segment is too short!!!!

I was doing some work on a few .jpeg images in PhotoShop. All I was doing was increasing the size very slightly. When I saved and closed the images and then tried to re-open them I get the following error message; Could not open the document because a JPEG marker segment is too short ( the file may be truncated or incomplete).
Can anyone tell me what has gone wrong here?
