3d text

Can someone explain how to create 3d text, the tutorial doesn't explain it very well.
The extrude menu does open to 3d type text.

It depends on how 3-D you want it to be. You can add a bevel/emboss and make it look sort of 3-D. Making copies of the beveled text and nudging a pixel or two down and over will add to the depth. Doing this repeatedly will add even more dimension. See examples here:
