To all experienced users of Photoshop

I am using Photoshop 7 on a Windows platform (OS is XP)

How does one enter a symbol in text?

I am in the middle of a project where I have to enter the symbol for square kilometres - i.e. km

I am in the middle of a project where I have to enter the symbol for square kilometres - i.e. km² repeatedly. I have set up a shortcut key in Word - no problem.

This shortcut key doesn't work in Photoshop.

Is it possible to set-up a shortcut key that will work in Photoshop?
I tried using the ASCI(?) shortcut (Alt + 1078) but that didn't work either

This is driving me nuts having to copy and paste from another text editor (Word) each time. A shortcut key that works would save me a lot of time and much frustration.

Thanks in advance for any tips

Alt+0178 (from the numbers keypad on the right-hand side of the keyboard) works for me in Photoshop 7 and using Windows ME.
You need to hold down the Alt key while you key in the digits - but I expect you know that.

Another solution is to just use km2 and then select the 2, make it a smaller font size and use the baseline shift in the character palette to nudge it up a bit to make it look like the "squared" symbol. Copy and paste as needed.

For other hard to find symbols, just copy and paste from the Character Map in your accessories.

Peadge :-)
