Images too dark in PS CS2

Hi,

I am hoping someone may be able to help me with a very basic problem in Photoshop. Since using CS2 I have found that any image opened in Photoshop looks very dark - about 1 to 2 stops underexposed, when compared to how it looks in a standard Windows viewer or any other application. I have changed the colour space to be Adobe 1998, which all other photographers recommend. I've gone through the gamma corrections and calibrations, even reinstalled the application, but by default the images are very dark.

I would be very grateful if anyone has had a similar problem and has been able to find a solution.

Best wishes,
Jenny

How does the histogram look in Photoshop? Is it 'dark' there too?

No there is a good distribution in the histogram. It occurs in all my images, so there is something wrong in the default settings. This never happened before CS2.

Photoshop uses your monitor profile, Windows Viewer (probably) not. I would first recalibrate your monitor to see if that helps.
