Grayscale images have red hue?

I'm at my wits end and would appreciate any suggestions.

I have the following set up: Cannon G3 camera, Adobe PS 7 and an HP 7960 photo printer that has a photogray card installed.

I use channel mixer to create my grayscale images, and I try to be consistent with colour managment re: I just keep everything (image, color space, and printer) as sRGB. However, my gray scale prints still come out looking reddish.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

Are you setting printer settings for Black & White? If you leave PRINTER SETTINGS on color, you usually end up with some type of color cast.

Thanks for replying to my post Q Photo. When I open up
the Properties screen of my HP 7960 printer, I have the option of checking off "Grayscale." -- Is this what you mean by "printer settings?"

Well, I have the answer to my own question: "It's the paper, stupid."

After using up ink and a many sheets of generic brand photo paper, I tried a *different* paper (matte finish) and sure enough the red hue is gone.

Yes to "grayscale" in printer settings.
