This is annoying me because I've done it plenty of times, just not lately and now I can't remember how ...
I'm trying to create a "carved in" effect of text on a sign. My sign is on layer 1 and I've created layer 2 with my text which I have rasterised. Then I am ctrl-left clicking on the text layer thumbnail whilst on layer 1, but instead of grabbing the text outline, all I'm getting is the box with the text in it.
Obviously I've forgotten the techniqe - can someone kindly remind me of the combination of buttons/keys I need to press to grab the outline?
Thanks in advance,
B

Ignore - was clicking on layer name instead of thumbnail. Doh.

why did you rasterize the text?
it is more editable as text, you can use the styles
make the fill 0 to see through it and add a bevel or inner shadow for the imprinted look
