how to make transparent watermarks stay transparent

hello there, i was wondering how i would copy and paste my existing transparent watermark onto a picture without it turning all white? i tried doing drag and drop and it worked fine, the watermark stayed transparent on the image i put it on, but when it is being copy and pasted, it turns white.

Is the Photo a Background (layer) ?, Turn it into a real LAYER. Background does not have transparency.
