XREFs for Photoshop ?

Is there any way/command/trick/etc. that allows me to 1) place a PSD inside another PSD and 2) whenever the "placed" PSD is updated, the changes are reflected in the PSD that it was placed in.

I have a "master" PSD file and 6 smaller files that are placed inside it. I like to work in the smaller files at different times, different users, etc. and it would nice if when the "master" file was opened, it would display the current state of all the linked files.

For AutoCAD users, I am looking for an XREF-like command for PS.

YES YOU CAN - place the first PSD (or illustrator file or what-have-you) as a SMART OBJECT and it will keep itself linked to the original file permanently, or until you flatten the image or such. smart objects are also great because you can resize them downwards and then back upwards to original size again without ANY loss of quality due to resampling etc - and if they are vector objects, they can be resized either way, up or down regardless of original size - and will still update when the linked file is modified

oh - and make sure you have PS CS2 (not sure if smart objects was a feature of the earlier CS)
