Photoshop 5.0 on Windows XP

I have a new computer running Windows XP. I have a Pentium 4 processor, 512MB RAM, and dual drives - a DVD-ROM and DVD+RW. I had Photoshop 5.0 running on my old system with Windows 98. My version of Photoshop 5.0 was an upgrade from 4.0 so I used the 2 drives to do the install on Windows XP. The install completed normally but I then found that both drives were locked and I could not remove the CDs. I had to do a system restore then which deleted the Photoshop 5.0 installation. Has anyone else run into this problem and is there a way around it or is it just the case that Photoshop 5.0 upgrade is not compatible with Windows XP?

As far as I know Photoshop 5.0 is compatible with Windows XP, but I am not completely sure. I know we have 6, 7 and CS running in the office all on Windows XP.

5.0 did come out a long time ago and even perhaps before XP was released.

Look it up and see if it's XP compatible. Or ask the guys at <http://www.CustomPerfection.com>

I know they know a LOT about Photoshop. They desgined our office computers specifically to run Photoshop.

(Check it out: < http://www.customperfect.com/Base-Models/GraphicDesigner/cle arcase/> We have three of these machines now.)

I'm guessing that they would know for sure.

The reason you lost your upgrade sounds like it's because you went back during a system restore point.

Good luck to you.

In my experience PS5 runs fine on XP.

Okay, I have verified it. There is a machine at the web design offices of <http://www.johnderrick.com> running PS 5 on an older PC which has XP for the operating system.

I guess it is running stable also.

To DrJohnD: Thanks for the tip. John Derrick got me straightened out and everything is working fine now.

Ahh yes, John Derrick is the guy who built my machine over at customperfection.com

I think he does most of the work over there. Maybe he does run the company, I'm not sure.

So he fixed your problem, that's great. Glad I could steer you in the right direction.
