using paths to create arrays of shapes

i've not been able to find out if in Adobe photo shop 6.0 you can use paths to somehow automatically map the spacing of shapes (as paths)... sort of an array of shapes. E.g: drawing a curved line path and then using that path to periodically place rectangle shapes at even spacings with a rotation that follows the curved path? is this possible?

Not in Photoshop 6, no.

The only way I've found to do this kind of thing without a calculator and protractor is with CorelDraw using a plugin called Oberon Fit Objects To Path <http://www.oberonplace.com/products/fitobjects/>. It works fairly well, though it could use some additional ways to distribute the objects along the path. There's also a Windmill Tool in Andrew's Vector Plugins Vol. 4 <http://www.graphicxtras.com/products/aiplugin4.htm> for Illustrator that does somewhat the same thing, but I've found it to be harder to use for precise placement. If you can find a copy of the ancient Aldus Intellidraw, it had great tools for distributing and rotating objects.
