Ctrl Z only goes back one step

Then it redoes what I did the second time I hit it – I want to make it undo each time I use the shortcut – how do I get it to do more than one undo? – Using version CS2 – nothing in preferences/general

Ctrl+Alt+Z, you can also click in the history palette to undo/redo your actions.
