Lines to look like sparklers?

I have CS2.

I want to draw lines that will appear like the effect of kid's sparklers (or the sparks effect of cutting metal with a blow torch).

Any ideas?

Create a new brush using either a picture of sparklers or from your own design.

Sounds like a cool brush. I'd be interested to know how to build it too. And is it possible in version 7?

Can anyone hook us up with any sites with tutorials for building these kinds of brushes? I'm more familiar with Painter's brush building, and have never really explored PhotoShop's.

This is from the CS Help files - I would imagine it is much the same in PS7

Create a custom brush from an image or portion of an image.

You can create a new brush tip based on a selection in an image. Photoshop adds the tip to the Brushes palette.

a.. In the Layers palette, select the layer containing the image you want to use for your brush.
b.. Using a selection tool, select the area of the image that you want to use as a brush tip.
c.. Choose Edit > Define Brush Preset.
d.. In the Brush Name dialog box, type a name for the brush, and then click OK. Photoshop adds the new brush preset to the Brushes palette, using the selection for the brush tip.

Find or take an image like the sparkler images shown at
http://www.bigfoto.com/miscellaneous/photos-08/

1. Paste into a new PS document,
2. flatten the layers
3. invert the colors
4- Desaturate
5. Create Brush (see previous posts) from this image.

6. Open host image
7 add new layer to host image
8. Paint on new layer with the brush you just created.
9. reduce fill opacity to 0
10. Use a glowing neon tube layer style (there are dozens of them around. Google for one) make sure that it has both an inner and outer glow. You might want to exaggerate the outer glow a little.
11. Muck around with the opacity if needed, and try the screen, hard light, and dodge layer blend modes for the "sparkle" layer, as well as the normal layer blend mode. Which one will work best will depend on your host image.

Ta Daaaa! Sparkler.

that sounds a lot like Painter's image hose. Should be easy then. I'll look into it more. Thanks!
