Precise positioning for radial blur?

Is there a way to precisely position the center point for radial blur? Every once in a while I use radial blur, and positioning it annoys the crap out of me.

thanks

I've never found one--- which is why I use a plugin to do this, even tho there's a native filter.

I think it's the same way for the lens flare. I don't use lens flare, but those who do must be annoyed if their lens flare does not quite come from their light source...

Place guides to determine the start of your click-and-drag. Tom Nelson

I beg to differ but you can precisely place a lens flare on an image. It involves the Info palette and a little-known feature of the lens flare dialog box.
First, open the info palette (found under the Window menu) then put your cursor in the precise spot in your image that you want the center of your lens flare to appear. Then look at your info palette under the X and Y coordinates and make note of those two coordinates. Go under the Filter menu, under Render and choose Lens Flare. You will see a fairly large preview window in the center of the dialog box. Hold the Alt key (Mac: Option key), click once on the preview window and it brings up the Precise Flare Center dialog box. Enter the coordinates you made note of earlier and click OK. Your Lens Flare is now precisely located.

I tried this operation with the Radial blur and unfortunately, for the Original poster it does not function with that filter. Also note that I am using PS 7....maybe it works in PS CS and then again it may not. I just don't understand why adobe doesn't have this feature for other filters that need precise positioning

Hope this helps some of you out there

lens flare is easy---- do it on a new black layer and change the layer blend to screen...
then you can position it precisely.

That works under PS 6.0.1 (Mac) as well. FWIW - to add only one small thing to your lucid directions: the ruler should be set to pixels (so Info shows in pixels) because that's what the dialog box wants. (Control-click on the ruler to change that quickly.)

And Thank You for that tip! Very cool. I'm probably going to waste an hour digging into other features looking for hidden dialogs.

There is a way, though it is a pain in the butt and RAM intensive.

First increase your canvas size to a huge size, at least 200%. Then place guides exactly where you want the blur to originate. Then make guides crossing at the exact center of the canvas. Then move your layer so the origin spot is on the new crosshairs. Run your radial blur. Then move the layer back to the original crossed guides and reduce the canvas to original size.
