What is supposed to be grey is blue in photos

I am using Photoshop 7.0.1 on a Dell with XP. I have 512 RAM and 2 hard drives-one 20G and one 80G. I am networked to a HP 4600dn Laserjet printer.

When I print photos out of photoshop, anything that's grey in color gets printed in blue, i.e. I have what's normally a grey border and it prints a light blue, instead. I have changed the cyan usage on the printer, and well as the black toner usage to no avail. I have enough of all supplies and then some. All other programs are printing normally, as is the printer if I use the print demo function.

Sometimes I can get it to re-set and print properly by turning off the printer and/or PC and letting them set for 15-20 min. This is getting to be a real issue since I have clients waiting on what I print out.

I have spoken to an HP authorized repair center, and they seem to think that the program, not the printer has the problem.

Can anyone help me out here? Please? I'm desparate. Thanks in advance.

Lane,

Tell us what colour management settings you are using in Photoshop and in the print d/box.

Where would I find that? Everything I learn is trial by fire (my Co. doesn't pay for lessons). And what is a print d/box-print dialogue box?

Color settins are uneder edit -> color settins.

The print dialog box is the dialog box that appears when you choose print in the file menu.

Lane,
You're a candidate for Ian Lyons' tutorials. Sounds like you have an inaccurate monitor profile, and probably using the wrong options in Print Preview for color management. HP ( at least in their inkjets) likes the sRGB colorspace as a source for their driver, so you might want to use that as a working space, or convert the image to sRGB before printing.
Try these tutorials, in order , and see if you can't clear up that problem. <http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps7-colour/ps7_2.htm> <http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps8-colour/ps8_1.htm> < http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps7_print/ps7_print_mac.htm>

The whole website would be useful, but this may get you printing more accurately.

OK, this is what I have:

Settings: Custom

Working Spaces

RGB: sRGB IEC61966-2.1
CYMK: U.S. WebCoated (SWOP)v2
Gray: Gray Gamma 2.2
Spot: Dot Gain 20%

Color Management Policies

RGB: Off
CMYK:Off
Gray:Off

Profile Mismatches is checked to ask when opening.

I have been using this set up for almost two years and this is the first time that this has been an issue.

Thanks and I will go check on that website Brent, thanks.

OK-Fixed the problem. Chalk it up to the "Stupid Girl!!" Files. I mixed HP and non-HP toner cartridges and the printer disliked it-ALOT. Thanks for the help and sending me to the tutorial sites. This should help me out some. Lane
