PS 7.0.1 - How do I remove a twain source?

Hi folks,

I use PS7.0.1 and recently had my HP PhotoSmart S20 scanner fail so I uninstalled it from my PC. However, Photoshop still lists it as an option under File/Import as HP PhotoSmart S10/S20 Scanner...

Is there any way to remove this twain source from PS's File/Import menu since it's no longer on my PC? Thanks.

By the way, if I choose it as a source now, PS tries to find it and forces me to use Windows XP's <CtrlAltDel> Application "End Task" to close PS.

Do a Search on Twain 32 on your hard drive. You should be able to find your old scanner folder in there so you can delete it. Drag it onto the desktop first and open PS to see if it's still there.

Thanks, it was a smidge more complicated than that, but I did find and eliminate several files, directories and eventually the offending file that puts the ex-HP hardware's menu selection in the File/Import menu of PS7.01.

Whew. Now all that remains is for me to determine why I should be so surprised that so much crap is left on a PC after using the software's Uninstall feature! Once again, manufacturer's seem to not be able to comprehend that anyone would ever want to remove their software. I suppose I should be happy that the removal didn't involved editing the registry.

Did you reboot after the uninstall? If drivers or services are running, the uninstall procedure can't delete the files because they're in use. But you're right - most software leaves a mess behind. I bet if you search the Registry you'll find some more debris there!

Yes, many times over many weeks!

If drivers or services are running,
the uninstall procedure can't delete the files because they're in use. But you're right - most software leaves a mess behind. I bet if you search the Registry you'll find some more debris there!

I don't doubt it even though I run registry cleaners every now and then (Symantec and FreeRegistryFix). But things are better now so I doubt that I'll go looking through the registry for anything PhotoSmart-related.
