Newbie?: Fade Dark to Light, Left to Right?

How can I take a solid color image, such as a dark blue and have it gradually fade starting on the left (dark blue) and get lighter moving right until it becomes white?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Set your foreground color to the dark blue you want, make sure the background color is white, then go play with the gradient tool.
