Taking OUT a lens flare in Photoshop

I need to take out a lens flare on a scanned photograph (originally film, hence the flare) – waht is the most efficient way in photoshop ?

Flare comes from lenses, not from film.
What I would do is clone the flare away. How big is it? If it is a big red circle try to select it and shift the colour.
