curved edges selections tool?

I am trying to cut out a shape which has curved edges.
an anyone tell me the best way to do this. I have tried the lasso tool and then smoothing this but it isnt very accurate and very hit and miss what selection shape i end up with.

Pen tool. Learn it; love it. Much better than the lasso. I believe myjanee has a tutorial.

Another similar possibility might be to use the Shape Tool (maybe the rectangle with radiused corners), define your Shape, then Filter>Distort>Bloat, then convert, via Paths, to Selection. However, I agree that the Pen Tool is where I'd start.

Pen tool.

The most difficult tool on the toolbar to learn to use, but also one of the most useful tools on the toolbar.
