Discrepancies between Photoshop vs. Image Viewer

Hi:

I noticed that Photoshop gives a different rendition of images than my two image viewers (ACDSee 32 & XNView). For instance, this is especially the case with TIF files in CMYK mode. But it is also true of TIFs in RGB mode as well. In the former mode they seem to come out more saturated and contrasty in PS. Anyway, which version should I trust: the image viewer or Photoshop? Which is a more accurate rendition of the image itself. And why is this happening? Thanks a bunch for any help!

Your image viewers do not understand color management and color profiles, Photoshop does. Consequently, Photoshop show you the images as they really are, the viewers don't. The viewers show everything as if it was sRGB, whether or not that is really the case.
