Created text doesn’t appear correctly on certain images

When I try to add a text layer on certain jpg images, the text created will be extremely small, too small to view. However if I create text on a blank canvas & copy it over to the image, it works fine. Anyone has a solution for this?

Check Image>Image Size and make sure the resolution is not something ridiculous.
