Smart Objects

I'm using CS2 on an XP platform.

I drug an image into a psd file I'm working on. I right clicked and made the new image a smart object, so resizing would not remove pixels.

Now when I try to work on the image, PS won't let me. How is a smart obejct supposed to be handled?

I think I've missed something somewhere.

Well, it took me a few days to figure out how to edit a smart object.

First, smart objects are new to CS2. When you drag an image in from another file, it puts it on its own layer, as in previous versions. IF you transform/change the object and make it smaller, it loses pixels and cannot be resized to the original size without a loss of image quality.

Once you have your object on the new layer, right click it and select smart object. Now the object has become a file within a file. The original pixels are always there regardless of how you transform the object.

IF you want to change the object other then by the transform command(s), click on the small thumbnail on the layer palette. That brings up the object and you can make changes when you resave it.

It sounds more complicated than it is, but that is the way smart objects work.
