Can I draw roads & rivers as double lines?

I'm using Elements 2 to draw a few diagrams taken from a map. My problem is that I cannot find a way to draw roads or rivers in DOUBLE lines. Yes I know I could draw a sinle line and then copy it, but this means that on curves, the width between the lines is not uniform.
Does anyone know if Elements will do this?
Any advice appreciated.

In Photoshop I would make a path, stroke it and then stroke it again using an eraser sized smaller, which would take out the middle, leaving two parallel lines. Another way would be to define a new brush that would be to equal size squares or circles arranged vertically one above the other and set the Angle Jitter to Direction.

But that's Photoshop; I don't know how much of that you can do in Elements. You might be better off using a vector illustration program lie Illustrator or Freehand.

Many thanks. I wont use Illustrator because of it's rediculously steep learneing-curve. I'll look at Freehand, but if it isn't "easy-to-use", then I'll give up on it.

There are many freeware and shareware vector software's designed specifically for maps and blueprints.

Draw single 1 pt. line. Duplicate it and align directly under first line. Make the new line 3 or 4 pt black. Make 1 pt. line white and group together.

Why not draw a single thick line the width you want
then select the line and "modify" the selection, i.e. contract it so you can delete just new selection and leave the rest? Depending on your needs, you might want to draw it on its own layer till you get what you want.

I don't use Elements, but this is an elegant solution for PS.

This is a good method. I would add that you can use Filter>Other>Minimum with radius set to 1 to make the bottom black line line wider.

You may prefer the look of making the original line thicker, and thinning the top white line by using the Maximum filter. If you want cleaner lines than the 1 pixel difference gives you, double the ppi of your image, and increase or decrease the line width by 2.

Draw your lines on a new transparent layer, put your text labels on top, and you will be able to modify them later without affecting your other work. --
