Acer Prisa Scanner 310S crashes Photoshop when acquired

Acer Prisa 310S (SCSI) scanner, Windows 98SE PC, Photoshop 6.01, 512mb Ram, using MiraScan v342 drivers directly off BenQ (Acer) site. Photoshop works fine by itself, but as soon as I try to acquire twain driver for Acer scanner, Photoshop freezes and minimizes itself. I've taken out all other twain drivers out of the c:\windows\twain32 folder, as well as made certain all old scanner software packages were uninstalled. Restarted, and restarted again.

Scanner worked on similar PC, and different scanner (Umax) worked with Photoshop on this computer. SCSI cards on both machine are not OEM with scanner, but Adaptec cards. SCSI ID #'s are set the same on both PC's.

It's almost got to be a twain conflict, but not sure where else I need to look to fix conflict. I'd prefer not throwing out Photoshop preferences, but that may be next.

Any suggestions?

I tried for YEARS with a 610st with both 7 and CS. i was never able to get the acer working (3.42 mirascan, tried with acer scsi card and with adaptec 2906) with xp and photoshop. worked fine with me and ps 7. finally gave up and bought a refurb epson photo scanner, usb. just as fast and better resolution. the max optical res on the epson is 1200, the acer's was 600. both do transparancies (negs and slides) give it up. trust me. get a new scanner. the refurb cost me 39 bucks w/free shipping. the old acer cost me over 250.

Kathleen - you'll have to ask Acer about it...

don't bother. i've tried. (literally for about 2 years before i bought this new one about 6 mos. ago). actually now benq. I kept a dual boot xp/win me system just to use the scanner.

for less than the price of a steak and lobster dinner you'll have a scanner that'll blow the 310s away.
