NEF under/over exposure

I've heard about a technique that enables one to expand the exposure range of images that involves making 2 images with +2 and -2 ev (or similar) in PSraw and bringing them into PS. What should I do with these images next..... so that I can burn in areas that have been overexposed?

many thanks

Put the 'Under' on top, with a 'Hide All' mask, and paint in on the mask the areas you wish to darken. Or, put the 'Over' on top with a 'Reveal All' mask, and erase the mask where you want to darken.

To make it easier to get the two layers into correct alignment, temporalrily set the belending mod of the top one to 'Difference', and Tans form or move it until i looks as black as possible. The, set the blending mode back to normal. Experiment with various blending mode and layer opacities, too, to find the one that looks best.

I don't know about your camera, but many high-end models have a "bracketing" mode. This means it will take 3 exposures - one as metered, the others either side of it.
