Is there a way to automatically hide the toolbars and palettes in PS when you open up the file browser? And then have them reappear when you close it?

Tab hides/brings back the palettes in Browser mode and in Photoshop.

Yup, I’m with you on that. I want it done automatically. I have yet to find a reason to have the palettes around at all in the file browser.

Hide all the palettes with Tab, maximise the Browser window, and save it as a custom workspace. You then have it whenever you want it.
