Can't delete .psd file

I have a psd file that refuses to be deleted, says it's in use by another program or user, and it isn't. I can't move it, I can't delete it I can't rename it and I can't make any changes to it. Anyone got a clue why this file is suddenly invulnerable?

I see this happen now and then with various kinds of files. In my experience, the next time you reboot the problem will go away.

Remove the crap from my email address before using.

Rename psicon.dll to psicon.dll .old, re-boot the computer and then try to delete.

Had several files with same problems. For some reason if I opened PS after boot I could work with/delete files. If I opened Windows Explorer first, I could not. Also a "psicon.dll" thing?

Can the same thing happen to an EPS file? If so, what is the icon.dll named for it?
And....do you have to rename the dll back again afterwards?

rrose,

Exactly the same file, psicon.dll

do you have to rename the dll back again afterwards?<<

If you don't you won't get thumbnails for PSD's in explorer

so...what is psicon.dll? Is it necessary...can we delete it before it goes bad? I have occasional similar problems...I cannot drag a file to InDesign because "the file is in use"....but its not. I just rename it and import the copy...but if removing that file ends the problem without causing others...I am prepped for surgery!
