Background Color of Work Area

Windows XP, Photoshop CS

1. How do I change the background color of the workspace? When I first started using Photoshop it was a gray but somehow I managed to change it to a light tan. How do I get the gray back?

2. On the menu choices at the very top of PS where "File" "Edit" are located the choices are now outlined in white surrounded by a box instead of the background color. How do I make this go away and back to the default.

Thanking you in advance,

HPB

how can you cut out an image so that the back is transparent. how can you then keep it transparent so that it can be inserted into web pages and powerpoint presentations and blend into a multi colored background?

can anyone help me?

Please search the forums for "remove +background" or "transparent +background."
