Graduated grid

Does anyone out there know the best/easiest way to produce a graduated grid. I need a grid, similar to graph paper but a little wider each line about 1 mm in width, which will sit bottom right on an A4 page and graduallly fade as it rises up the page, so by the centre of the A4 page it will have faded to nothing and the bottom and right hand side of the grid almost stretch to other two corners.

Any help gratefully accepted.

Hi Alan,
Draw your grid however you like- the line tool would be a good start (hint- putting lines on different layers and then linking them allows you to distribute the lines equally using the little align buttons on the options bar when the move tool is selected).

Once your grid is drawn (flatten the layers if needbe) add a layer mask. Then use the gradient tool on the layer mask to hide part of the grid.

Drawing your grid is going to be the worst bit- you might want to use the rulers to help you align the lines, or use my hint above. You could always scan some graph paper in and use that as a guide!

As Helen suggested, drawing a gradient on the layer mask sounds like the way to go for fading out part of your grid.

As far as the grid itself goes, you could draw a box of your grid, do a tight selection of it, and select Define Pattern, then select the area you want the grid in and Fill with Pattern. There is also a plug-in that will help you with drawing grids at http://www.users.cloud9.net/~gparet/photoshop/
