I get the icon view. Despite changing it to details, it doesn’t stick. Any thoughts?

Maybe try setting it in explorer tools > options (match current view) and reboot to lock it in. I had this problem recently after setting that incorrectly and it showed up in various programs’ file dialogues.

Try this , open the folder , go to Tools/Folder Options/View and click Apply to all Folders. Had this happen a couple times to me , seems to be a random XP bug.
