Epson CX5400 problem with Photoshop 5.0.2 and Win98/SE

I just purchased an Epson CX5400 that I am running on a Win98/SE machine with Photoshop 5.0.2. When I select File>Import>TWAIN_32 I get the standard scan dialog screen. I then press "Pause" and then try to select "Home Mode" or "Professional Mode" from the pull down menu. This crashes Photoshop every time. Has anybody had the same experience on similar systems/Win OSs/Photoshop versions or know of a way to solve this problem?
