I have a number of images varying from 2Mb to 4Mb.
How can I resize each image to be 50kB for emailing.
I have tried the options under Image/Image Size but it doesn't let me specify a specific size for the final image.
I want to be able to say the final image size (ie 50kB) and then let PS do the rest.

To make the file smaller, you will likely need to reduce the dimensions in pixels and optimize the image as a JPG. First, determine the size and resolution of your image (Image > Image Size). If the resolution is higher than 72 ppi, make sure the boxes are checked for Constrain Proportion and Resample Image (bicubic). Then, if the dimensions are larger than a typical monitor, reduce one of the dimensions (height or width) to a decent "Web" size, perhaps no larger than 600 pixels in either dimension.
If the resize difference was significant, you may want to sharpen the result with Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask. I usually use a setting of around 97%,
0.3 pixels, 1 threshold. Next, Save for Web. Here you can choose 2-up or
4-up to see variations in file size and quality, the lower left hand corner of each pane displaying the new file size. Save it with a unique name so you don't overwrite the original, if it was also a JPG.
