Look at how the histogram changes. The result is *not* the same. Exposure will shift the whole histogram to the right, brightness will change the shape of the histogram.

yes, this what i was thinking, but exposure slider it also changes the shape of the histogram, maybe bot as much as brightness, but it does too

So that's the difference. It may be subtle, but it's there. Personally, I first use exposure to move the histogram to the right (if needed). If the image still looks dark, I use brightness.
